Abstract
Oscillometric blood pressure measurement is one of the most commonly used methods to estimate the state of the cardiovascular system. Despite its widespread use, accuracy of the oscillometric method is influenced by several factors and can be questionable in case of arrhythmia, jerky breathing and increased arterial stiffness. This paper analyzes the accuracy of the oscillometric method for measurements of patients affected by cardiovascular diseases. Illustrative examples are given when the conventional oscillometric method produces high errors. A method is proposed for the compensation of these errors based on the photoplethysmographic signal.
