Abstract

In this paper we present the fundamental methods of performance testing and a novel black box testing method for the automatic performance validation of communicating systems. Our method solves the main problem of this kind of performance testing, namely its ad-hocness. As a part of the presented two-phase methodology, we show how to map two kinds of performance requirements to a performance model in the first phase and how to compare this model to the physical implementation in the second phase. The output of our method is the worst-case and the expected performance value of the system under test. We also present our simulation results according to which, the proposed methods are correct and can be used efficiently.
