Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many changes to society and industry. In addition, Korean universities have also brought about a rapid expansion of online education. The expansion of online education also served as an opportunity for the development of online education. This study aims to develop a ‘building construction hybrid curriculum’ that can actively utilize online education. The main research contents of this study include ‘changes in online education in Korean universities before and after COVID-19’, ‘learner needs analysis for online education’, and ‘development of building construction hybrid curriculum’ In order to analyze changes in online education due to COVID-19, we analyzed the curriculum in 2021, during the pandemic, and in 2023, when the impact of COVID-19 was almost eliminated. Operational data on approximately 120 subjects operated at 23 universities in Korea were collected and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, compared to 2021, the proportion of online lectures in 2023 decreased significantly and the proportion of face-to-face lectures increased. We analyzed the needs of Korean university learners for online education. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 231 students at 9 Korean universities. The survey results showed that learners wanted to actively use online lectures. A ‘building construction hybrid curriculum’ that actively utilized online education was presented. The contents of the hybrid curriculum include ‘Assumptions for a building construction’ and ‘Weekly education contents & method of building construction hybrid curriculum’. The hybrid curriculum of this study is expected to enhance learner choice and contribute to learner-centered education.
